An Evening with Makoto Yamaguchi at Nogizaka Shin

We are delighted to present “An Evening with Makoto Yamaguchi at Nogizaka Shin.”

For this special occasion, the artist creates vessels specifically for the event, and Shinji Ishida, owner and chef of Nogizaka Shin, creates a menu especially for those vessels. The dishes are then served to guests at the counter, with the artist himself present.

This marks the ninth edition of our artist × Nogizaka Shin series.

To coincide with the fifth anniversary of Nogizaka Shin, we are delighted to welcome back Makoto Yamaguchi, the very first artist to take part in this series.

Through his rigorous exploration of classical ceramics, Yamaguchi has acquired a remarkable depth of knowledge and technical skill, which he brings to his work as a ceramic artist living and creating in the present day. His ability to create something fresh and new while retaining the essential appeal of ceramics comes precisely from his profound understanding of the very nature of the medium.

Four full years have passed since Yamaguchi first joined us in 2017. During that time, Shinji Ishida, owner and chef of Nogizaka Shin, has continued to refine his craft through encounters and collaborations with a wide range of artists.

Now, both return to this collaboration having evolved considerably over those four years.

We invite you to experience their reunion—a new encounter between the ceramics of Makoto Yamaguchi and the cuisine of Shinji Ishida.
