Takashi Tanimoto solo exhibition
Once again this year, we are delighted to present a solo exhibition by Takashi Tanimoto. This will be his 12th exhibition at our gallery — for which we are truly grateful! Whenever I encounter Tanimoto’s work, I find myself thinking about balance in form. Although there may be some differences from person to person, there must be certain underlying principles that determine what we perceive as visually beautiful and well-balanced. With simple forms such as a perfect circle, achieving balance may seem relatively straightforward. But the more asymmetrical and complex a form becomes, the more difficult it is to maintain a beautiful sense of balance intentionally. Ceramics, being three-dimensional objects, should make this even more challenging — and yet Tanimoto handles it with remarkable ease. I often wonder how he does it. My current theory is that the secret lies in those round glasses of his, so I intend to investigate further. This exhibition will present tea wares, flower vessels, sake wares, and tableware, all shaped by Tanimoto’s exceptional command of form. For this occasion, we have also asked him to create a selection of wall-mounted works. Reservations for works featured in the catalogue will be accepted until two days before the exhibition opens. If we receive multiple reservation requests for the same work, the purchaser will be selected by lottery. We will inform you on the day before the exhibition opens whether a lottery is necessary and, if so, of the result.
