Yosuke Kojima solo exhibition

This year, we are once again delighted to present a solo exhibition by Kojima.

The exhibition was originally planned to mark the first firing of his new kiln, but—quite unexpectedly—the COVID-19 pandemic caused delays, and the kiln could not be completed in time...

Instead, Kojima devoted the time he would have spent building the kiln to making his work—and the result is an even stronger collection!

The exhibition will feature a remarkably diverse range of pieces: unglazed, high-fired ware with a little tanuki bathing inside; Madara Karatsu with contrasting halves created by natural ash glaze and rice-straw ash glaze; and richly expressive Iga ware, where layer upon layer of keshiki—the landscapes created by clay, ash and fire—leave almost every surface with something new to discover.

Alongside these characterful, wood-fired sake vessels, we will also present blue-and-white ware for the coming season, silver-decorated pieces, Ido-style ware with its distinctive texture, and hakeme tableware, among many others.

Kojima’s works possess a dynamic sense of movement, yet always retain a remarkable coherence as functional vessels. They are stimulating and full of character, but at the same time feel completely natural in the hand and alongside food.

They are simply good vessels.
