An Evening with Genkaku-Sadamitsu Sugimoto at Nogizaka Shin

We are delighted to present “An Evening with Genkaku-Sadamitsu Sugimoto at Nogizaka Shin.”

Thanks to your continued support, our artist × Nogizaka Shin series has now reached its tenth edition. To mark this special occasion, we are honored to welcome Genkaku-Sadamitsu Sugimoto, a ceramic artist based in Shigaraki.

Sugimoto creates his work with the philosophy and aesthetics of wabi-sabi at its core and is widely regarded as one of the leading figures in the field of tea ceramics. His work is admired not only by practitioners of the tea ceremony, but also by chefs and collectors, and his solo exhibitions have been held at venues including the Nomura Art Museum in Kyoto as well as galleries overseas.

As always, every vessel for this event will be created specifically for the occasion. The works will arrive at Nogizaka Shin just one week before the event. Only then will Shinji Ishida of Nogizaka Shin begin developing a menu in response to the vessels, with each dish ultimately served to guests at the counter in the presence of the artist himself.

Until now, this series has primarily featured collaborations with younger ceramic artists. How, then, will Ishida respond to the work of Sugimoto?

We have a feeling that this tenth edition will have a character quite different from anything we have presented before.
