We are pleased to present our second solo exhibition by Ryoko Suzuki. Unusually for an artist specializing in painted porcelain, Suzuki handles every stage of the process herself, from selecting the raw materials to design, forming, painting, glazing, and firing.
The beauty of her painting and forms is immediately apparent, but her distinctive character can also be found in the beauty of the surfaces themselves. Whether earthenware or porcelain, ceramics are defined in no small part by their surfaces, which form an essential element of the work. We hope you will pay close attention to this aspect as well.
And yet, it is difficult not to be captivated by the designs. The crisp, taut forms and delicate painting and carving come together in perfect harmony, while their affinity with delicately prepared cuisine is another of their great attractions. With tea bowls and sake vessels that are held in the hand and brought to the lips, the beauty of their texture can be appreciated all the more directly.
