We are pleased to present our first solo exhibition by Shinya Fukushima!
Shinya is the younger brother of Kazuhiro Fukushima, an artist already familiar to visitors of our gallery. Like his brother, he works in Iga, but naturally has a style entirely his own. While fully embracing the characteristic beauty of Iga ware created through firing in wood-fired kilns such as anagama, his work also reveals a light and playful spirit. This can be seen in his adaptations of traditional Iga decorative techniques using impressed molds, as well as in the wide variety of forms he explores. His new designs are developed from a firm understanding of the classics, giving them a strong sense of conviction at their core.
Alongside Iga, the exhibition will feature Oribe and other works, including tea ware, flower vessels, sake ware, and tableware. We warmly invite you to visit!
