This year, we are once again delighted to present a solo exhibition by Shinya Fukushima.
Fukushima creates highly distinctive forms, ranging from figurative to abstract, and brings them to life with the rich surfaces and firing effects of Iga and Oribe ware. Inspired by his unique approach to form, we asked him to create a large chessboard and a complete set of chess pieces. Unfortunately, they were not completed in time to be featured on the exhibition invitation, but we very much hope you will come and see them in person.
In recent years, his approach to form has become increasingly refined and cohesive, allowing his designs to feel more vivid and expressive than ever. At the same time, they seem to have developed an even greater affinity with the distinctive firing effects of the Fukushima family’s Iga ware. His work has also taken on a stronger sense of movement and energy, which we hope you will enjoy discovering in this exhibition.
Alongside his Iga and Oribe works, Fukushima will also present celadon pieces for this exhibition.
