We are pleased to present a solo exhibition by Yosuke Kojima.
Although Kojima works across a remarkably wide range of techniques and styles—from Iga, which forms the core of his practice, to Korean-style ware, Karatsu, and gold and silver decoration, including platinum—his expression through form is equally diverse. His skill on the potter’s wheel is remarkable, allowing him to shape works across a seamless spectrum from quiet, restrained forms to those filled with movement.
Because gold- and silver-decorated works tend to be covered in a single colour, the strength and beauty of their forms can be seen especially clearly. Personally, I am particularly looking forward to his Iga works. Iga ware may well be the most flamboyant form of unglazed, high-fired pottery in the world, and Kojima creates surfaces and kiln effects that exceed expectations. His pieces seem to capture within them an atmosphere taken directly from nature. Although they are not featured in this catalogue, he also plans to exhibit a large number of flower vessels.
