Once again this year, we are pleased to present a solo exhibition by Shinsuke Nishioka.
Nishioka works primarily with Mino ware inspired by the Momoyama period, while also actively developing new techniques that did not exist at that time, all within a rule he has set for himself: to use only materials sourced from the Mino region. As a rule, Nishioka gathers the raw materials for his work himself. He digs clay and stone and burns plants to make ash. In the course of doing so, he sometimes encounters unexpected materials that inspire ideas for new techniques. It is thanks to Nishioka’s approach and philosophy as a potter that we are able to encounter new forms of Mino ware. Thank you, Nishioka!
This exhibition will feature works in his new techniques, including Mino Seihakuji, Mino Hakuji, and Gaihaku, alongside new works in Kiseto, Oribe, Setoguro, and Shino, traditions he has been exploring for many years. We warmly invite you to visit!
