For our first exhibition of 2026, we are pleased to present a solo exhibition by Reiji Omori. Once again, he is going all out. Of course, that is my own way of seeing it, but while Bizen and Shino may each have certain definitions, they are ultimately concepts. They are complex things that cannot be contained within simple x, y, and z axes, yet somehow Omori, who is after all a person entirely separate from myself, keeps hitting exactly what I consider the ultimate mark.
His Bizen possesses weight within thinness. His Shino includes both the new styles first presented in July 2025 and further refinements of classical Shino forms. There is Setoguro with a crisp, unwavering sense of purpose, and Oribe in refined forms enlivened by kiln transformations. Alongside tea ware, flower vessels, and sake ware, this time we also asked him to devote particular attention to tableware such as mukozuke. Omori’s ideas are packed densely and richly into a broth steeped in the Momoyama tradition. We warmly invite you to come and see the exhibition!
