We are pleased to present a solo exhibition by Yotaro Fujinoki.
His meticulous attention to detail remains as strong as ever, as does the appeal of the varied firing effects that can be found even on a single tiny plate. These are essential elements of Fujinoki’s work, which combines the rustic vitality of kiln-transformed stoneware with a dignified, refined presence.
This year brings a new development in his guitar series: believe it or not, tokkuri! The distinctive features of each guitar have been carefully captured and skilfully incorporated into the designs. The forms look so natural that it is easy to overlook the fact that their gourd-like shape also preserves the unmistakable character of a tokkuri. Amazing!
It is also a delight to see details such as the volume knobs and position markers faithfully incorporated. His signature instrument-shaped flower vessels also appear this time in the form of a Stratocaster. Although it cannot be seen in the photograph, each has a removable inner container at the back for arranging flowers. The fact that the flowers are arranged from the back, together with the guitar-shaped form itself, allows entirely different aspects of the flowers to emerge compared with an ordinary flower vessel. This is another fascinating feature of the work.
