Chosen-Karatsu Vase with ear lugsYotaro Fujinoki
¥93,500
Drawing upon the keen sense of form and accomplished draftsmanship cultivated through his formal training in fine art, Fujinoki creates his work in Chinzei, near Nagoya Castle, the base from which Toyotomi Hideyoshi launched his invasions of Korea. While his series featuring musical instruments such as guitars, violins, and saxophones, as well as charming small animals, is widely recognized for its originality and meticulous craftsmanship, his vessels for serving food have likewise earned high acclaim. Comfortable proportions, well-balanced forms, and careful consideration for the user run consistently throughout his work. His tokkuri (sake flasks) modeled after musical instruments are particularly noteworthy. While skillfully incorporating the distinctive characteristics of their motifs, they retain all the functional qualities expected of a vessel, including ease of pouring and a comfortable grip. These works have become representative examples of Fujinoki's practice, achieving a remarkable balance between sculptural expression and functionality.
